Serien Vessel utvidgas med fler numrerade verk, det finns nu 53 olika unika Kärl i denna serie.
This serie of Vessels does now content 53 numbered unique objects.
Det är frestande att placera hennes arbete i en tradition av skandinavisk minimalism. Hit hör de rena linjerna, den ljusa zirkonglasyren som med stänk av kobolt och kopparoxid tycks fånga himlens skiftningar. Fast på nära håll löses stramheten upp, medan glasyren droppar och rinner. Varje cylinder är ringlad och handbyggd, ett tidskrävande arbete. För att kunna bygga riktigt tunt använder hon pappersfibrer som armering. I ugnens hetta brinner papperet upp och bildar kratrar i glasyren, en effekt hon medvetet arbetat med.
Formen är sig lik. Det är cylindern, kärlet, behållaren som både omsluter och öppnar sig, men inte i väntan på innehåll.
- Jag ser mina arbeten som redan fyllda. Tomheten är tillräcklig i sig själv, säger Gunilla Maria Åkesson.

It´s tempting to place her work in a category of Scandinavian minimalism. It bears clean lines, a light zirkonglaze whose splashes of cobalt and copper oxide seem to capture the movements of the sky. But on closer look the austerity dissolves, while the glaze drips and runs. Each cylinder is turned and made by hand, a timeconsuming job. In order to make it very thin, she uses paper fibres as reinforcement. The paper burns off with the heat of the kiln and forms craters in the glaze, an effect she deliberately works to achive.
The shape is the same. It is the cylinder, the vessel, the container that both closes and opens itself, but never expects to be filled.
